We offer our consultations on a sliding scale to make them more financially accessible, with a reduced price option for ‘Good Neighbours’ – local residents of Granton, Pilton, Muirhouse & Drylaw – and a ‘General Rate’ for anyone outside this area. Appointments are offered in person at our clinic in the Granton Hub – and phone or Zoom appointments can be available on request.

 About The Clinic

In Grass Roots Remedies Co-op we believe that herbalism has always been the ‘medicine of the people’ and aim to provide affordable person-centred herbal care, with its roots in the local community. We also recognise that all of our health depends on the health of our land, and so we use an ecological approach, prescribing native and Organic Scottish herbs as far as possible.

The clinic is run by Ally Hurcikova, a professional Medical Herbalist registered with the American Herbalists Guild & the National Institute of Medical Herbalists.

The clinic is also a training clinic to support students of herbal medicine who are particularly interested in a community-centred approach to healing. From time to time they will be in shadowing appointments. We will always check this out with you before your appointment, and you do not have to give your consent to having a student sitting in.

Clinic Location & Accessibility

  • The clinic is located in the Granton Hub, a community centre in Madelvic House, Granton Park Avenue, EH5 1HS. This is just off of West Granton Road in the Granton area of North Edinburgh.
  • It is readily accessible by bus, and there is on street parking for cars & bicycles.
  • The clinic is on the ground floor, which is accessed via one or two steps depending on which door you enter, and there is a ramp available to enter the building.
  • There are toilets available on the ground floor, but unfortunately at the moment these are not wheelchair accessible.

Ally is a true professional. From our initial consultation to the follow up, nothing was rushed. She asked many questions to build an accurate picture of what she could do to help get the body back in sync. I was then provided with helpful dietary and lifestyle advice, as well as a personalised herbal medicine. Many of the herbs are handpicked from her local community garden in Edinburgh, one of the few places where you can see where your medicine comes from. This is how local medicine should be. Highly recommended!

Costs of Treatments:

Grass Roots Remedies Co-operative is passionate about herbal medicine being accessible to those who need it. The North Edinburgh Community Herbal Clinic offers appointments on the basis of a sliding scale, which means that you pay an amount relative to what you can afford for your treatment. We ask that you honestly assess what you can afford, and won’t ask for any proof of income.

All treatments have a Good Neighbour Rate for people living in Granton, Pilton, Muirhouse & Drylaw (typically EH4 1, EH4 2, EH5 1 and EH5 2 postcodes), and a general rate for those coming from outside this area.
