Grass Roots Remedies is a Herbal Workers’ Co-operative based in Scotland. We are all passionate about working in community to empower people to use herbal medicine, particularly with local and abundant plants.
We love to collaborate on projects and are keen to share our approaches to:
Urban foraging and medicine making with a bioregional focus
- Closing the circle of the herbs we use – growing, harvesting & foraging sustainably to reduce “medicine miles”
Home herbalism practices, especially low-cost and low-time
Constructively blending online and in-person learning with accessibility in mind
- Working gently in community gardens & land projects to support mental health

National Institute of Medical Herbalism 'Herbalism in the Community' Award 2021
We were the Inaugural Winners of NIMH”s new award brought out in 2021 aimed at recognising herbalists providing excellence in their community work. This was for the work of our Wester Hailes Community Herbal Clinic.
Runners Up in the Category of 'Award for Prevention & Self Care' in the Complementary Therapies Awards' 2018
In 2018 a few of us were lucky enough to be invited down to London for the College of Medicine’s ‘Complmentary Therapies Awards’. We were nominated in the category of Prevention & Self Care for our work in Wester Hailes, and were runners up in this category.
